Billy is scheduled to make TWO appearances this weekend at The Grand Ole Opry, Saturday, (June 24, 2000) between 7-7:30 and 10-10:30. (times are Central)

"This has been my dream ever since I started singing," said Billy. (quote from his Web site)

For those not into County music, appearing at The Grand Ole Opry is like..... well there is nothing like it. Simply put, The Grand Ole Opry is Country music, and Country music is The Grand Ole Opry. The two go together like wheels on a car. I can't think of anything in any other genre of music that even comes close to the significance of performing at, like the Opry has to Country music.

Billy's debut performance was originally scheduled for May 6, but was postponed. A tour schedule indicates that he was in Las Vegas, NV performing with Asleep At The Wheel as part of the George Strait Country Music Festival that night.

For Billy fan's not in the Nashville area there is some really great news. TNN will be dispensing with their regular 8:00 Opry Backstage and 8:30 Grand Ole Opry Live schedule for a ONE HOUR long Grand Ole Opry Live, starting at 8:00 Eastern and Pacific. ClickTV and others are still reporting the regular schedule so this is a recent change, I wonder if Billy had something to do with it. 8-) NOTE however that there well NOT be an 11:30 repeat. It's only on the once.

Country.com reports "Child singing phenom Billy Gilman makes his Grand Ole Opry debut Saturday night (June 24) during the show's 8 p.m. ET/PT segment. TNN will carry Grand Ole Opry Live for a full hour this week, from 8 to 9 p.m. Gilman and 20-plus family members from his hometown of Hope Valley, R.I., will be in Nashville for the lad's career milestone."

So to repeat myself BILLY GILMAN will be make his Grand Ole Opry debut and it WILL be on GRAND OLE OPRY LIVE on TNN Saturday, June 24, 2000 at 8:00 PM et/pt

For those who do not get TNN, WSM-AM 650 in Nashville, TN, who have been broadcasting the Grand Ole Opry live for 75 years, launched the Internet broadcast of their show last Saturday and will be broadcasting this weekend's show, for more goto WSM-AM Radio at Broadcast.com

Opry 3 WOW!!!

Well... The couple of TNN audio glitches aside....

You could tell he was nervous, REALLY nervous. Although fully understandable considering how much this meant to him. And his black suit looked a little big. 8-)

Interesting that "they" choose to do 'Till I Can Make It On My Own. I guess because from what I've heard about the album it's the most "country" song he's done. But he really didn't seem all that comfortable doing it. Or maybe it was because he couldn't move around. Or maybe it was the television camera in his face.

He really seemed a lot more comfortable doing One Voice, and being able to walk around the stage. And he was very professional when the back-up singer screwed up, just ignoring her and even over powering her mistake.

Overall I'd say he did an excellent job. He didn't let loose like he did on the ACM Awards, and considering this was one of his dreams coming true and what that must have been doing to his nerves, he did a really great job.

Opry 4 GOOD WORK BILLY!!!

Well, It's a good thing I waited to send this. Pam Tillis just got invited to be a join the Grand Ole Opry, and it was fitting that they had Billy bring her out flowers when she accepted since it was hearing Pam perform on TV that got Billy started when he was 3.
